You're actually looking for an 05-07 Legacy GT wagon or 05-09 OBXT. There was no 08-09 LGT wagon in the US.
Other than exterior appearance the main difference is suspension. If you want a decent handling car you get the GT. If ground clearance is a concern, you get the XT.
I'm not sure about the Outback, but the LGT was only available with a manual transmission in 2005.
