Did you check the clearances on the main and rod bearings before fully assembling the block. Using aftermarket STD bearings the clearances need to be checked and possible crank polishing or machining maybe required. The way Subaru and every other Japanese engine, their are different size bearings for each main journal per the numbers stamped on the top of block case. Did you also check the end gap of the rings? I've had STD size rings that had no gap and you do need to have the right amount. Too much gap and you'll get too much blow by and low cylinder compression, too little and you'll have gasses trapped between the rings causing bad things. Also did you check the heads and block halves decks for straightness?
