USDM spec is always more sedate, squishy and plain vanilla than JDM, AUDM and EDM models. More likely, I'd bet on Americans wanting pseudo-SUVs, not wagons.
Having driven a Highlander for quite some time, I see the point - it drives like an okay
sedan, but has a serious ride height advantage. In a sedan, you sit in
the car, most crossovers, you sit on
the car... if that makes any sense. On a long trip, either is a wash for me. On a trip in California? I'd rather have at least a crossover, so I don't get dwarfed by all the massive trucks and SUVs on the sea level streets (and it only gets worse up in the mountains).
