They are essentially "hood pins"
Sleeper almost had it right... although not necessarily gas powered, it is a R/C chassis with a lexan body held on with clips that go through those body posts. Looks like a rolling chassis or electric as there is no hole cut to add fuel or for the side exit exhaust that a gas model would have. I think it's just a roller because even R/C cars don't handle well with that much camber, poke and stretch
