This in my mind is a pretty poor way of doing it. Having it go by thanks means that the first page or two of submissions which get much more traffic than the latter pages are more likely to be 'thanked'
May i suggest taking the top 20 'thanked' posters, having them select ONE picture they wish to submit and then having a vote on those 20 pictures? Top 12 make it to the calendar.
Simple, efficient and creates less confusion than the free for all that has ensued thus far.
