true a lot of people do over torque (i did as well) you just get a feeling for it after breaking, stripping, or not making them tight enough.

OP let us know how it goes, hope it all goes well and you figure out something.
I do it by feeling as well. HOWEVER, I don't know what the heck kind of torque wrench you're using if you can't feel anything with it. My torque wrench is the clicking type and behaves exactly like a ratchet up to the point of release.
