If you mount the turbo on the up pipe without the studs, it's much easier to install the turbo without damage to the inlet hose. The bolts are the same ones that hold the up pipe bracket to the block.

Oh, I also went with a stock inlet hose.
255,000miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. CHECK your oil, these cars use it.
