^ true story - always been the case unless you find a really rare buyer who doesn't know this general rule of thumb.

Back in the mid 90s in the custom lowrider and car club scene, guys I knew well with insane "magazine spread" rides ended up selling to kids in Japan who would import them, and that was the only demographic that would be able to pay anything remotely close to what they had into customizing; primarily because it was tough for them to get early model Cadillacs etc. with all the "Americanized" upgrades (so ironic now when you consider how US citizens spend $$$ for authentic JDM goods now).
