I am not sure that I would buy a rebuild kit until you know what you want to replace. Spend a lot of time here http://opposedforces.com/parts/legac..._transmission/ to see what parts are available from Subaru.

Also, while you will need some of the specialized tools, a lot of times you don't so spend a lot of time studying the service manual - it will tell you exactly what to do and DO NOT skip ANY words - it is translated so it reads weird, but there isn't a lot of extra stuff in there so make sure you understand what they are saying or you will miss things.
