One thing Subaru does VERY well is transition. I sold them for 2 years when the very first Outback was introduced. ALL IT WAS was a two-tone wagon that came standard with a roof rack, projector beam foglights, special interior, and a cargo tray in the rear. This was obviously to see how people would take to cosmetic changes. Once THOSE sold, then they raised them up, and beefed them up.
If you look closely at MY car and an '05 sedan, you CAN see the resemblance. Subaru is very good at marketing their product.
