An oil filter should not become clogged after only 5000 miles. If it does, something else is wrong. I could see how using a low quality oil and not letting the turbo cool down could create coke particles (turbo turds), but this should not happen under most driving conditions.
Boy am I glad I have a normally aspirated engine now. I can use cheap ass oil and standard filters and change it every 5-10k miles without worry. The extra power would be nice, but most of the time I don't need it and it is not worth the hassle. In the end nothing beats raw displacement for low cost highly reliable power. I get more stock power from the NA 2.5i engine in my Subaru than I did in my stock 1.8T VW and I don't have to use premium fuel and expensive synthetic oils and expensive filters. In the end it was just too much trouble for a daily driver.
