I did both because I figured if I have it all apart, I might as well replace both sets of bushings. Not sure how much difference it made to be honest, but I don't regret doing it.

I don't remember for sure, but I'm thinking it was half an hour of labor, so $35-40. I would definitely recommend going to a Subaru dealer instead of Ford/whatever.

Yeah, gotta make slow progress with the pipe cutter. I tried using a lot of muscle and doing it quick but it just destroyed the blade. You have to just tighten a little at a time and go around it...

Mine was so rusted/stuck on there that I couldn't pry it off. I had to use a Dremel tool with a little cut-off wheel to cut the gasket apart to get it off.

I would put money on it being a blown head unit. Does the noise follow the engine's RPMs? Pioneers are very prone to this problem; it's happened to two of mine. What model is yours?
