  1. sold the g-forces and picked up new wheels and tires this year. H&R + koni set up is still great. thought i saw some sagging in the rear this winter but i just had too much stuff in my trunk. i did order some shims, however, and may install them in the rear since I often keep tools in the trunk and like an even look. rota gravels, hyper silver, 18x8 +48 falken 453, 235 40 18 http://i611.photobucket.com/albums/tt192/waxon_waxoff_01/IMG1121.jpg http://i611.photobucket.com/albums/tt192/waxon_waxoff_01/IMG1122.jpg http://i611.photobucket.com/albums/tt192/waxon_waxoff_01/IMG1123.jpg with nothing in the trunk, gap is very even front and rear at about 1.5 fingers. im really happy with this setup!
  2. fyi - took forever to get these in. i can confirm what many have said, 235 40 18 is just fine on 18x8 +48. even with the extra bit of drop from the h&r's. ride quality is really great with this tire size and they look really nice and square with the rim. i took the rubber liner off as well, but probably didn't have to. looks better imo with it off anyhow.
  3. cool. also keep in mind the h&r's drop almost an extra half inch compared to h-techs, not sure how much this would increase the chance of rubbing. i'm a little worried because i'm mounting fk453's which have a fairly wide section width (something like 9.8 inches), but from what i have read if you stay under around 10 inches section width with an 18x8 +48 then you should be fine. what tires are you running now so i can compare section width?
  4. i will let you know at the end of the month when i get that wheel and tire size installed. currently running h&r with konis. from all of the research i have done, you should be fine, may have to remove rear rubber fender guards to avoid rubbing. i personally like this combo, takes a little time to dial in the konis to match the springs, but once you find that sweet spot then everything feels great. ride quality is definitely stiffer and less forgiving than stock, stiffer than epics but softer than ions. so if you want to retain the comfort of the stock springs then these aren't the best option, but i daily drive them and i have no issue with them in terms of comfort. very little dive and squat, helps with body roll a bit. highly suggest a whiteline roll center kit too. with my snows right now in 205 45 17 (same overall diameter as 225 40 18) i have about 1.5 finger gap up front and barely 1 finger at the back. the 235 40 18's im putting on will decrease the gap by an additional 4mm, but i am considering using saggy butt spacers for the rear to even it out visually and keep a little bit of gap. overall with this tire size the gap is a little too small for me, but when i was running 225 45 17's the gap seemed pretty natural looking. i'll put some pics up once i pick up the wheels.
  5. here are some shots of my ride with H&R sport springs and konis. really nice combo. wheels are 17x8 with 225/45 17 rubber. chris from touge tuning took these pics about 3 weeks after installation, the front springs definitely needed some time to settle. http://i1265.photobucket.com/albums/jj512/TougeTuning/IMG_3827.jpg rear: http://i1265.photobucket.com/albums/jj512/TougeTuning/IMG_3829.jpg front: http://i1265.photobucket.com/albums/jj512/TougeTuning/IMG_3830.jpg
  6. yup, had a feeling. already have a local ad up for another set of struts. even if i could shim it, and it worked, i wouldn't feel right about it. thanks for the input. and thanks for the pipe cutter tip, that and a little wd40 made the cuts super easy. i just didn't pay enough attention to what i was doing
  7. ok - i think i may have messed this one up. used the brasscraft pipe cutter as per m sprank's suggestion. makes a great cut, but i ended up cutting off too much on one of the housings, maybe both. so on one housing, the nubs on the insert hit the top of the housing and then it looks like there's about 3 or 4mm before it would bottom out. i think this one will be ok. on the other housing, however, the insert bottoms out just before the nubs touch the top of the housing. so even if i secure this with the bolt, the nubs are not in contact with the housing. there is a very small amount of play side to side (1/2mm). i'm wondering if i can shim this somehow, or if i need to just start over with a new donor housing. advice would be much appreciated. edit: by 'shim', i was thinking of wrapping the insert with some foil tape so it would be snug. this might be a stupid idea. let me know...
