  1. That includes the STI. If they provided the stats for the WRX only, I think the manual take rate would be lower.
  2. Yeah, it's less messy but it's probably a little more accurate and less chance of contamination, IMO (dirty fumoto). Hammer Down's intervals are 15k so there's no sense in getting underneath the car unless you just want to check things out. And even with a fumoto, you should always drain a bit of oil before sticking the sample bottle into the oil stream. With the oil sample pump, you only lose the amount of oil that fits into the bottle (6 or 8 oz). Edit: Actually this is probably only 4 oz or so. OAI Testing: Sampling Methods 1. The component sampled should be brought to operating temperature prior to sampling. This will assure that the insoluble and semi-soluble material is suspended evenly throughout the system. Samples taken from components that have been inactive for long periods are not representative. 2. Sample should always be taken in the same manner and from the same point. 3. Do not sample a component directly after an oil change or after a large amount of makeup oil has been added. 4. Use a clean, dry, unbreakable container. Never reuse containers or sampling tubing. Oil Drain Method Clean the area around the drain plug thoroughly to avoid sample contamination. Allow oil to drain for three to five seconds prior to catching a sample. Place a clean, dry sample bottle in the oil stream and fill to within 1/2 inch of the top. Seal bottle tightly. Wipe bottle clean. Blackstone Run the engine before you take the sample to get the oil at operating temperature (driving about 20 minutes should do it). Getting the oil up to operating temperature should help cook out any normal moisture or fuel build-up.If you're taking your sample while changing the oil, let some oil drain before you fill up the bottle. Try not to get either the first or the last oil out of the pan. If you can't access the pan and need to use a pump, thread the tube down the dipstick and pump a sample up into the sampling bottle. We need 3 oz to complete all our tests. But even if you only have 1 oz, we can still do at least two, if not three, of our tests. If you have questions about whether we'll be able to work with your sample, call us. -Dennis
  3. OCI? With Amsoil HDD 5W-30 and a bypass set up, 510Finn may never need to change his oil again! Definitely order the oil sample pump instead of taking samples from the drain plug. -Dennis
  4. Also, I believe that it is important to note that what works well in a particular application doesn't always work well in another application. Here's a 7k+ mile OCI on SSO from an STI. The oil actually held up well for the conditions but it's not an ideal oil for this interval and this application. This is also posted in the UOA forum at bobistheoilguy. And be careful when running extended intervals based on one or two random uoa samples (or even more). paintpollz - Amsoil does not recommend any of their oils for over 3,750 miles for your application. Running a bypass system is a different ballgame entirely! -Dennis
