  1. Right on - thanks! I don't recall with absolute certainty what I ended up with initially, but even before you said anything, I have a vague feeling that it's probably "full hard - 1/4". I wouldn't go so far as to call it "insanity" (though perhaps two cracked wheels over the years suggests otherwise...) but it's definitely within the range of "intense" and/or "hardcore"... I'll roll the dice and see what happens.
  2. First of all, sorry for the necrobump... I've had this general setup (Epic springs, Koni yellows, Whiteline swaybars, saggy butt spacers, etc.) on my '07 LGT wagon for the past 8ish years, and it's been great for my purposes. I made all the changes from OEM while living in Miami where most surface streets (and all of the expressways) are buttery smooth, and it was perfect. It was a bit too stiff for my liking on many of the streets of Los Angeles, however. I'm now in Chicago where the roads are substantially worse than both Miami and LA, and while my LGT has never been driven in the winter, it's place in the pecking order has shifted in order to accommodate an E63s AMG wagon that now occupies the LGT's garage space. I had to get rid of my winter beater '04 OB 3.0 altogether, and now the LGT is my all weather/all season/lives in the driveway car. I'm looking to have a somewhat more compliant ride in the LGT and am wondering if there's any point in dialing back the amount of damping force on the Konis. Part of me just wants to leave things alone because sometimes messing with stuff that's worked just fine for 8 years is a bad idea, and part of me also thinks that it won't have much (if any) of the desired impact anyway, given that at least for now, I'm not planning on changing the springs or anything else. Any thoughts or opinions on whether there's any point to digging through all my crap to find the little "Koni adjuster knob" and loosening things up? Or should I just deal with it until I can convince myself to take the plunge and fundamentally alter the perfect setup of this car by lifting it a bit? Thanks!

  4. Will do. That seems consistent with what it felt like while driving, so I hope that's the answer. On another note, I think it might be important for somebody somewhere to name their child Strut Clevis.
  5. The swaybars have been installed for ~6 months and I'm familiar with the squawky noise they occasionally make when shifting laterally, and that's not what this is. I didn't mess with the sways at all today--just provided that info for context. Thanks guys--I'll make sure to check both of those possibilities first thing. The upper seat seems more likely to me than the top hat nuts both being loose, but who knows... If the upper seat is properly oriented and the nuts seem secure, might it be an issue requiring a spacer somewhere in the mix similar to when the Spec B top hats are used?
  6. As far as I know. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary or like we were just plodding forward without everything making sense. He and I both read over the walkthrough on page one several times in advance of the install... I can't say with 100% certainty that they are--I'll be sure to double check that first thing in the morning though. I've been poking around here and on several other Subie sites (and general internetting) and it seems like a common initial diagnosis/recommendation is to lube up the swaybar bushings, but the noises definitely felt spring-related, not swaybar-y, and I'm pretty confident that isn't it.

I just installed Koni's, Epics, and the Whiteline top hats in the front of my 07 LGT wagon (already had Whiteline sway bar and Moog endlinks on it) and while test driving it and driving it home from my mechanic's place (about a mile), it made all manner of loud chunks and thunks and springs and sproings and just general loudness--nothing like what I imagine the widely reported squeaking problem seems to be. Like the springs themselves, we're pretty unsettled by all of it. Or is this alarming degree of bonging and boinging normal? We didn't have time to do the rears today, but tomorrow morning we're doing Koni's and Epics in the rear (already have the WL sway, AVO RSB mount, and Moog endlinks back there), but my mechanic and I feel like there's no way that the fronts should be clunking and thunking this much, so we're reluctant about making things even worse by tackling the rear before we get the front sorted out. We can't find anything that seems loose, upside down, backwards, out of tolerance, etc., and we're pretty much stumped. Might something somewhere need a jerry-rigged spacer or something? Any ideas, advice, reassurance, recommendations, etc.?
  8. Perhaps I'm stuck in 2008, but from where I'm standing, that's really looking stunning. Good job. This is why I've got a black bra up front (far less IR reflective than BSM) and why I generally don't wash my car unless I've encountered road salt. I'm halfway to matte black myself... If you'd be willing to do an afternoon of testing along with another Legacy of any stock color (no particular reason why it must match your OEM paint color/range, and I imagine that a color on either extreme of the spectrum would be most diagnostic in terms of drawing meaningful conclusions--having both black and white cars to use as comparisons would be ideal, though black versus black matte would be the most useful) I'm sure that there are plenty of countermeasure enthusiasts that would be glad to help determine the extent to which a matte vinyl wrap provides protection from LIDAR punch-through. I don't know anyone off the top of my head that lives in your area and has access to the necessary guns, but perhaps Allen might have a better idea of folks you're relatively close to. If not, I'd be glad to help try to find someone.
  9. If you have access to any sort of LIDAR gun for some before and after comparisons, I'd be curious to see whether the wrap has any effect on how easy it is to get a reading.
  10. Some great ideas so far. I'd add a sticker to let the world know which insurance company you use. Maybe one to advertise that you're a member of AAA as well. I suspect that some people with those might actually think that their vehicle isn't covered unless it's bearing the appropriate sticker.
