  1. the old girl is runnin better than ever now with the new belt. although a few days ago my bro was playin basketball in the alley as i was backin in to the garage and the ball came down by the back of the car and as he deflected it his arm hit the entenna and now it stops about 8 inches from going all the way down. took it to the mechanic and it's gunna be like 200 bucks to replace (u can see it in the first pic below).....ughhh. oh well, it's a car worth repairing Some updated pics of around wisconsin and at road america http://i1031.photobucket.com/albums/y378/charmzdub/Mugen%20si%20and%20Subaru/2011-06-07172554.jpg http://i1031.photobucket.com/albums/y378/charmzdub/Mugen%20si%20and%20Subaru/2011-05-17143941.jpg http://i1031.photobucket.com/albums/y378/charmzdub/Mugen%20si%20and%20Subaru/2011-05-17144534.jpg http://i1031.photobucket.com/albums/y378/charmzdub/Mugen%20si%20and%20Subaru/2011-05-17145234.jpg http://i1031.photobucket.com/albums/y378/charmzdub/Mugen%20si%20and%20Subaru/2011-05-30181120.jpg http://i1031.photobucket.com/albums/y378/charmzdub/Mugen%20si%20and%20Subaru/2011-06-04134419.jpg http://i1031.photobucket.com/albums/y378/charmzdub/Mugen%20si%20and%20Subaru/2011-06-04171800.jpg
  2. my brother tried to save a basketball from hitting the car as i was backing her into the garage and as he thankfully knocked the ball away he hit the antena with some force and it's now kinda broke. i was sooooo pissed. it works and plays music when it extends all the way, but the problem is that it gets down to the last part when it retracts and it gets stuck so it sticks out about 8-10 inches. got a quote from local subi guy and he said it will be about $75 for the parts and about $75 for labor ughhhh
  3. Ya, it's at zero there, but i'm sayin the first tick mark which is 5 ticks below the 20 is 10mph, seeing as how each tick between 20 and 30 is 2mph. anything under 10mph is pretty much unreadable because there are no tick marks from 0-10
  4. This looks like 10 to me? right? http://i1031.photobucket.com/albums/y378/charmzdub/Mugen%20si%20and%20Subaru/DSC02041.jpg
  5. Ah, I see. I'll check it out later. I've noticed that the speedometer starts at 10 mph, but i never noticed that the tach was like that too.
  6. possibly, any idea what could be causing that? I'm sure i'm reading it right. What is the normal idle speed for our 2.5 gt's?
  7. The car has been running great since the belt was changed. runs much smoother at idle as well, not sure why? Before when the car was all warmed up and I'd be at a light or stopped somewhere and I'd just watch the rpm's idle and it would always jump around 350-420. Now with the belt fixed it doesn't jump at all, stays right at 400. The engine sounds so beastly at 6,500, its awesome! I also got the fuel filter changed and my mpg's have gone up considerably. probably gettin around 22-23 city, which at $3.75/ gallon is a big saver.
  8. thats great news! no HG's for me then. The car is getting serviced as we speak and is supposed to be done later tonight. Is there a certain amount of time that I should let the new timing belt be "broken in" before I start pushing it up to 6K rpm's again?
  9. Thanks for the input everyone. So is there any way to tell when the hg's are nearing their lifespan? Increased engine temp and/or black stuff in the coolant? Does subaru have a recommended time/milage as to when they should be replaced? I'm sure I'm fine mileage wise at only 66k but is there a projected time span as to how long they'll last and when subaru recommends to have them replaced?
  10. At 66,200 miles on my uber rare '99 LGT-L 5spd. Finally convinced dad to get the timing belt replaced along with the h2o pump and the thermostat. local subaru guru is gunna do it on thursday. I need to know if I might as well replace the HG's too...? If it's only like a few hundered bucks more I'll have them replaced as well. the technician quoted me around $800 for the t-belt, water pump, thermo, fuel filter, etc and labor. If I can get the HG's done for like $300 on that and I keep the total around $1100 I'll have him replace all of that stuff.
  11. I will certainly consider your offer. I'll keep you updated if and when I can get the money and time. probably not till spring though. I really appreciate it.
  12. oh ya, for sure. haha, that would definately be a steal! My school is very fortunate to have an actual shop and an entire automotive course for credit. we have two lifts and work on minor stuff like oil changes, wheel bearings, replace tires, fuel filters, mufflers, check spark plugs for defects, compression testing, etc. my shop teacher said we would be able to do it if there isnt any "special" parts required but i'm pretty hesitant to do it. especially since i've heard the timing belt on this car is quite difficult to replace any very time consuming so...
  13. I wish that were so. there's a local subaru mechanic that only works on subaru's in my town but he'll probably charge just a bit less than the dealership unfortunately. He's a really good guy and my dad had him do the required maintenance after we bought the car. (front brakes- pads, rotors, etc.) I would definately not hesitate to have him do it vs. the subaru dealership but cant until i get the money which could be a few months. subaru santa???
  14. I know! unfortunately im 17 and broke. haha. i've been consistantly nagging my dad to replace it but he won't.
