He wasn't trying to make it realistic, I believe this is what designers call a "stylized sketch", i.e. if there were no engineering, safety or ergonomic concerns how they would like a car to look.

I am using the roller wheel switch to the left of the steering wheel. The owners manual says it goes from 1-6, but mine only goes from 4-6! I don't know which knob to the right you are referring to...
