Use anaerobic sealant (red stuff). It doesn't set up in air, so won't be messy if you have to keep maneuvering worrying about drying.

The head bolts are not TTY. Subaru doesn't replace them when doing HG's, nor do they say it is mandatory.
This "issue" keeps coming up ever so often, but they are not TTY....
