  1. 186K on my first HG failure. Had to do it again 60K later since the FelPro HG's I used didn't seal up to the block well. Ended up having to lap the decks and heads by hand.
  2. And here are the heads after lapping.. https://photos.app.goo.gl/umRUwXyYy3S2kd158 https://photos.app.goo.gl/gLrsEDeLk5jcRKSf7
  3. Here are the decks after hand lapping.... https://photos.app.goo.gl/yZzZGqq3NWEAQWWb8 https://photos.app.goo.gl/T6iNCGUXCHTv98Bk9
  4. Realized I never came back an posted updates.... ended up resurfacing the heads and block decks by hand lapping. I used bluing dye to monitor progress on each. The fire ring imprints were still on the block decks from the first set of head gaskets, so I think that is why they failed after only 60k miles. Here is what the block deck looked like on disassembly... https://photos.app.goo.gl/SZKUrKGjnkkevvMx5 https://photos.app.goo.gl/M7Qw3MmR3PgKQXxg9 https://photos.app.goo.gl/uYq59FiGGgoGURLA6
  5. 16 Years here... Shell Rotella T6 5W-40. You're welcome!
  6. That worked... thanks. I was actually planning on going up to 600 grit to get a fine finish as I've heard the MLS gaskets like a smooth finish... the smoother the better I am told.
  7. I just ordered the updated 11044AA770 Subaru EJ257 gaskets for the rebuild. Going to pull the engine, pull the heads off and try to determine the failure mode. After I clean the head and block, I plan to check for flatness and finish. Probably will lap the head. Not sure about the block. While I'm at it, going to do the timing belt and idlers along with the release bearing for the clutch.
  8. Argh.... 65K miles (4.5 years) on the rebuild and it looks like I've got an internal head gasket failure, again. I heard sloshing in my coolant system on cold start last week and verified this weekend that the engine is slowly pushing coolant to the overflow reservoir. It's frustrating. I did everything right, I thought. Machined the heads, had the block checked, installed heads with ARP head studs, etc. I used Fel-Pro MLS gaskets. Could this be the issue? This is the same failure mode I had the first time (combustion gasses leaking into the coolant). Just trying to get some ideas before I decide on what to do going forward. Thanks.
