  1. Behind the ashtray in the 5MT, next to the shifter in 5EAT. The install was so easy, I had my wife actually perform the install in her car (her first mod ever!), and she was able to get it done pretty quickly with the instructions and a little coaching. The first install took 2 hours, the 2nd took 1 hour. Honestly, the hardest part of the entire install was figuring out how to safely disconnect the radio harnesses. On a scale of 1-10, (1 being a decal, an uppipe being a 7 or 8)I'd rate it a 3.
  2. Wow, this was a piece of cake. I'll be doing my wife's tonight. Jazzy, your enginerd status is the stuff of legend, and line-level iPod input in this stereo sounds FANTASTIC. The one issue I had was with the RCA-to-Minijack adapter, it wouldn't plug in completely to the extension cable, and then wouldn't unplug. I got it resolved with audio stuff I had laying around the house, and voila! I can't thank you enough, Jazzy! I'm kind of sad Subaru is including Aux-in in '07, because this was a fun adventure, and I learned to not be afraid to pull my center console apart.
  3. Got my Aux-in mods today, and read the instructions. Hopefully, this noob can do it! I've modded Xboxes in the past, and this doesn't look too different, I guess. I'm just nervous because I have to do 2 of them tomorrow, and my wife would be PISSED if I broke both our stereos. To the people that have done this: is there anything else I should know before getting started? Jazzy's instructions seem pretty straightforward, but anyone have tips to not screw this up?
  4. My Internet friend Leg GT Chris (AWDPirates.net in the house!) told my wife about this, and I didn't believe it was possible. I am buying a Leg GT wagon, (that will make 2 LGTs in the garage YAY!) and I was getting ready to drop a couple of grand getting an Alpine system jammed into the cubby, just to get CD quality iPod sound. I'm definitely going to try this first! Thanks! One question: do I have to wire anything to power the GLI?
  5. Update for Mac users: Running Virtual PC with the Keyspan USB to Serial adapter. It's working, but it's a pain in the ass. I have to uninstall the serial port and reboot the virtual PC each time I close Map Manager & restart. Plus, Cobb came out with a bunch of new maps (yaaay!) and I have AccessPORTs for both our WRX and Leg GT. However, I felt really lame showing up and having to have Justin and his crew load maps for me, so I guess this is better.
  6. I use a Mac and am therefore unable to load new maps to the AP. LUCKILY, I live 10 minutes from Cobb, and they are rad about helping with stuff like this. You only need a Wintel machine (I don't trust emulators like Wine or Virtual PC to manage serial DB-9 connections this critical) to load new maps to the AP. The AP comes loaded with all the latest maps from their website. I went from feeling like a retard about AccessPORT to being a ninja at it in the 25 minutes it took me to flash the ECU. Without access to a Windoze machine with a serial port, I'd recommend sending the AP in to Cobb to load new maps if anything awesome or critical is updated. However, you would likely only want/need to do this every year or 2, as the maps included are more than sufficient for most. If you're taking your Leg GT past stage 2, Cobb can do a custom AP tune and create maps, but it ain't cheap.
