  1. Interesting build project. I have autocrossed mine several times since 2008. With some suspension parts, it now has neutral handing instead of understeer. Overall, it is a huge and heavy car to autocross! I can beat some miatas but the ones with hoosiers and good drivers beat me.
  2. DoDo1975, My car starting running poor at idle too. Once moving, it seemed fine. I cleaned my MAF and K&N filter. That didn't help. The shop tested the injectors and found #2 was bad. The coilpacks and plugs were fine. Your car needs a leak down test. It will show if the piston or valves have a problem. My pistons were fine, but an exhaust valve on #2 was burnt and was not closing. I am beginning to think that on the older cars the injectors need to be removed, cleaned, and flow tested. If one becomes clogged, the cylinder will run lean and the valves will be damaged.
  3. Had the check engine light come on and the P0302 code for the misfire. The injector was found to be struggling and was replaced. The check engine light code came back in 20 miles and the compression test was done. The valves in cylinder 2 are burnt. Compression was down to 90 psi in #2. The mechanic thinks the injector wasn't supplying enough fuel and the cylinder #2 ran lean. Do injectors fail just because they become clogged, or can they fail in other ways?
  4. The STi and WRX have longer baffles from the hood scoop that connect to the TMIC. On the Legacy, there is a gap from the baffle to the TMIC without the engine cover. If you get a bigger TMIC, you then have to cut the engine cover to allow for the new TMIC. After I did that, there were some gaps between the bottom of the engine cover and the TMIC. I used open cell black rubber insulation (for windows and doors). That sealed the engine cover to the TMIC nicely, but the adhesive on the insulation couldn't stand the heat. I glued the insulation to the bottom of the cover using JB weld and now it is on there for good.
  5. Thanks for your help marvnmars. For step 3, I used a wide flathead screwdriver and wedged it between the flat console tab and the white flange of the plastic pin. I turned the screwdriver and the pin relased easily. I installed a 3M furnace filter. The airflow is only slightly reduced. The sound of the air through the vents is a bit louder though. The good thing is the dust and pollen did not blow in like it used to when I started the car.
  6. Help. I've got the 05 and I can't stand the pollen anymore so I tried to install the air filter. I was able to get many parts off but got stuck at step 3 where you remove the center console. I removed the 2 bolts in the center of the console. Then it says to pull up at the front. There are 2 white plastic pins holding it down in the front. You can only see one of them on the left side. Well, I tried pulling up and I couldn't get it to go. I was afraid something was going to break. How is it done?
  7. Anyone know the part number for the plastic bolts for the plastic under engine cover? My lower engine cover is sagging on one side. When I checked it out, I found a missing plastic bolt. It goes in a hole right at the cylinder heads just in front of the wheel.
