  1. I can't open my tailgate to check the wiring. I have removed the access panel and pushed the lever down. I can hear the mechanism moving. The handle feels like it does when the hatch is locked - no resistance. Pushing forward doesn't help. How do I open the tailgate to remove the trim and access the wiring? Any suggestions will be appreciated. john
  2. oops - Oil treatise https://540ratblog.wordpress.com/
  3. The only TSB I've seen about the turbo filter said to replace it if there was a turbo failure. When did they release a TSB saying to remove the filter? The tolerances in a turbo are so tight, I don't believe you'll find a way to rebuild one. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Interesting oil treatise. Long, but it got me to change to Quaker State synthetic. Picked up a length of brake line today. NiCopp. Shouldn't rust again. Be nice to have the wagon back on the road tomorrow. john
  4. I do most of my own maintenance, but my wife regularly receives ad mailings from Subaman. Good to hear he is reliable, but I find his prices high. Often the ad wants more than a Subaru dealer for the same service. I've called him to share this with him. Last year when I needed a clutch replaced and called for a price, the fellow answering the phone (not Subaman) asked me if I had an automatic! I had it done by Mentor at West Side Imports for $1200.00 I believe. Time to get the snow tires on this afternoon. John
  5. Still have ours. Replaced the left rear strut bushing and eccentric bolt yesterday so I can adjust the rear toe to spec. Sure would be easier if Cleveland wasn't on top of a salt mine! Rust sucks. john
  6. We are still driving our black wagon. University Heights. Wife is making noise about a new car. I'll keep it as a winter car. Too bad Subaru doesn't build a comparable car anymore. Closest thing may be a Golf sportwagon, but it sounds like it is underpowered and I don't want their reliability issues.
  7. Keith Tanner at Flyin' Miata stated in one of his books that adjustable sway bar end links let you install the sway bar with no preload. You actually only need one adjustable end link to accomplish this. john
  8. For a stock engine, I've been using 5w30 synthetic oil since our wagon was new. Walmart seems to offer the best prices on 5 qt. jugs. john
  9. Hi Zach, Ours lives near Cedar-Taylor. I generally do the maintenance myself. I received a mailing recently from a shop in Willoughby I think claiming they were Subaru specialists. The prices they advertised were higher than a similar mailing from one of the dealers. Currently, our wagon is at Cascade in Cuyahoga Falls for the airbag inflator recall. They tell me the entire dash has to come out to change the inflator. Hopefully I'll get it back tomorrow. john
  10. The issue with Adventure was outrageous. It sounded to me like the employee driving the car and those who allowed him to do it should have been arrested for theft. The way the dealership tried to deal with it initially was despicable. john
  11. Guess it was around fall 2008 at the Bedford store. I had taken the car in for a few things. Forgot to mention a defect in the door panel. I remembered it in their shuttle on the way home and called the service desk. The fellow said he'd add it to the work order, but didn't. They picked me up to get the car, but the dealership was closed when we got to the lot. I showed it to the shuttle driver and explained I had called, but it wasn't added it to the work order. He said they'd take care of it. We left on vacation the next day and the 3 year warranty period expired while we were away. When I returned, the fellow at the service desk told me there was nothing he could do since the warranty had expired. I asked to speak with Mr. Ganley. He told me I couldn't. I asked why not and his response was that he didn't know Mr. Ganley. I figured they were telling me they no longer wanted my business. john
  12. We often get gas at the Mayfield/S Belvoir Get/Go. I'd have to look in the log book in the car to see if she got gas the day you are asking about, but she has been keeping full lately. The GT is currently parked at the S. Euclid library on Green. I haven't been back to Ganley for service in years. They refused to do a warranty repair. That was unacceptable. john
  13. I just received an e-mail from CarFax saying the GT is now added to the airbag recall list.
  14. Still here. Gt is doing fine. My wife was heading over around Mayfield and Richmond to shop this afternoon.
  15. It sure felt strange putting the ski racks on our GT yesterday so I could haul the winter cover frame down to the boat wearing a t-shirt and shorts. First day I wasn't out riding my bike this week! john University Heights
