Thank you, very much, Zero 1! So, if that is the union screw you extracted from your engine, the filter looks as clean as it can be. How many miles did it have? I'm assuming, pristine maintenance...

I agree, especially knowing how easy it seems to tear up the inlet hose, I don't feel like taking that route. And it will still be very difficult to fit in tools and do the job properly under the IM....

Since I got my 2008 Outback XT at 66K miles, I have been doing a lot of research on failed turbos and I don't think I'm getting a clear picture. Even though there are reported cases of such failures...

That seems like an option. Here: (http://www.lamin-x.com/Subaru-Outback-08-09-Fog-Light-Covers-p/s119.htm). I just don't know how effective a plastic film (even 40 mil) would be against a rock, even...

It seems like I have no choice - my engine being the '08 MY (VF46 turbo), the union screw is supposed to be under the turbo inlet hose, so to replace the filter, I'd have to (re)move the hose. Maybe...

Filters - alternatives to Subaru OEM

Just like my other thread about the fluids, how about one for filters?

1) Air. I like using the Subaru OEM filters. It seems less hassle and safer than cleaning a reusable filter, but I'd like to...

Yes, I saw that but they seem to be out of stock. If there aren't any other sources, I guess I could try ordering and see if they'll ship it when it's back in stock.
Thanks!

A few things:

1) On my 2008 XT, the high beams are used for DRL. I like DRL - on my older Subies, which don't have DRL, I tend to turn the headlights on manually when it is raining or dim...
