They're much better than a dedicated snow tire when it's raining or dry out. Snow tires are horrible to drive on dry pavement. They're the ultimate in being sloppy but excel in the snow.

Definitely go with the new Conti's. They have an awesome 540AA rating. I've had plenty of the older Conti Extremes and have nothing but rave reviews.
