Sounds like there might be aftermarket injectors still in it. Sometimes they do that and need to be tuned during the start up cycle. I had a stage 2 with injectors that did the same thing.

Perrin makes an adapter. It shortens the shifts, but not really the overall length. I had one and I liked it a lot. Ran it with the OEM bushings and later the Perrin ones.
