Just a torch to heat the metal helps. You don't have to get it red hot, and don't have to hit it with cold water. Just torch it a bit to heat it up, then wrench it off.

I've learned my lesson....this is the first time I've heard of needing to check the torque after putting wheels back on, but it makes sense, and is now something I'll be sure to do after every time...
