its the cvt engine braking, common on all cvt's I have seen it also cuts out around 30 mph so you just coast below that.

I think it has more to do with the variable a/c compressor used this year in order to increase mpg it will disengage under heavy engine load also takes longer to cool the cabin down when its hot out....
