  1. I honestly don't think the burnt exhaust valves have anything to do with the stock tune. The tune changes the fuel injector injection and spark ignition timing. The exhaust valve is closed during both events. I just had this issue late last year. A cylinder 2 misfire. I traced it to a burnt valve. There was no clearance between lifter/bucket and cam on one of the valves. The clearnace on other exhaust valve on #2 and valves on #4 were no longer within spec or at the minimum but still had some clearance. I really think that checking and adjusting the valve clearance at the time of timing belt replacement would eliminate the burnt valve issues. I think some valve clearances were just set too tight from the factory. Some people probably get lucky with valve clearances that were on looser end. I know Honda has this requirement on V6 engines. I'm surprised Subaru doesn't suggest the same thing. Of course at 100k miles it's no longer their problem right. They get to charge you more for the repair when the time comes by not recommending it.
  2. I have to do my own troubleshooting. I have a misfire on #2 as well. I'm at around the same mileage, 138,900. I've replace the plug and coil and still get a misfire/rough idle but only when cold. Once the engine warms up the idle smooths out. I'm hoping it's a bad o-ring on the intake manifold that seals up once the engine warms up. You would think a bad coil or plug would get worse as the engine warms up.
  3. Just under 139k. Just replaced the #2 coil pack yesterday, due to #2 cylinder misfire. Very noticeable when cold but disappeared when engine warms up. Spark plug change a few weeks back didnt solve the problem. Running smooth now.
  4. If the engine has 160k miles on it I don't see why he would need to mess with his stock MAP. If it were an issue one would think he should have seen it by now. As for the banjo filter, my guess is either they have always changed the oil at short intervals or it has been removed. Talk about a time bomb.
  5. I use ultra copper 2yrs ago or so and havent had any issues. It had the highest temperature rating if I recall.
  6. Sounds like the cluster and trip computer/MPG meter are not getting good data from the data bus... The fact that both items are acting up, seems to indicate that one gets it's data from the other. It could possibly be a bad connection. You many have to pull the cluster and re-seat any connectors.. just a possibility.
  7. So who has the most miles on their original engine and turbo running only or mostly rotella T6 or other rotella oil? Just trying to get an idea how good the oil is.
  8. I just had mine done today. It was at a new place i hadnt been to before. For the first time i wasnt able to see what they did because the actual test area is closed off from the waiting area. But they did do the sniffer test at 2 different rpms and the test results sheet did indicate something about an obd II test.
