So you think that flushing the brake fluid every 30k miles is BS? Interesting take. I prefer to keep my brakes functioning by flushing out moisture laden old fluid every 2-3years. To each his own...

Jack stands load ratings are for a PAIR. A single 2 ton jack stand is only rated to support 2000lbs, 4000lbs for the pair.

If it has been making that noise for 8k miles then that is most likely piston slap. You can try using a thicker oil to help quiet it down but I wouldn't worry about it.

Best advice: Don't drive any other cars so yours won't feel so slow. There is not much on the road slower than a 2.5i Subaru so you pretty much can't drive anything else without feeling slow.

A drain and fill only gets out about 1/3 of the fluid. It is a lot less work to do a "flush" using an exchange machine. You also don't waste any fluid like you would doing a multiple drain and fill...

Torque bind. My 2.5i 4EAT had the same issue. Did a complete change of the ATF to BG full synthetic and the problem was resolved.

It's not a new trend, it was done for many years. Most cars in the 70s had the mirrors mounted on the door. It is more aerodynamic to mount the mirrors that way.
