VIN: 4S3BL676856219533 (SALVAGE TITLE, rear-end damage with repair quote stopped counting once they went north of $5k) Hopefully this is not against the rules, but I'm only selling one thing and I didn't see a more specific forum for it. The car has 181k miles, but the engine was a #YNANSB at 145k. https://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/scruits-engine-build-thread-241667.html?t=241667&highlight=engine There's only 36k on the engine, which was a new Subaru ej255 short block from Heuberger, heads were machines and a new BNR16g turbo. e-tuned by Cryotune, running around 17psi. Full cost of the new engine was around $6k in parts alone. Catless UP from invidia. Catted DP from CNT. Aluminum radiator. Factory wheels, summer tires are ~2yo. It was towed half a mile with the rear wheels on the ground. I drove it home from the bodyshop and the transmission was fine, but safest to assume the 5mt is for parts only. The front passenger door has rust on the bottom edge, but I have a spare door with no rust that will go with it All I'm selling is the engine. First $3k gets the engine... And you get the rest of the car with it. You can pull the engine out at your own place in your own time and junk the rest of the car, or part it out yourself. I'm doing this because I really don't want to pull this engine out or ship it. Plus, you get to hear the engine run in the car and know it is good. NOTE: The brand new propshaft I just installed a couple months ago, and the rear wing, are listed for sale separately. First come first served, though. If the propshaft sells first I'll put the old propshaft back on. It'll still drive, but it'll make a whine noise while driving. If you buy the engine before the propshaft sell then you get the brand new propshaft for free with the rest of the car. Car runs and drives normally. As it has a salvage title, it cannot legally be driven on the road. Local pickup only, bring a trailer or send a tow truck. Although TBH once it's yours I don't care how you get it home. Car is ready to go right now. Lien-free salvage title in hand. Attached pics are a pre-accident pic, and a pic of the accident damage. There is no damage forward of the C-pillars.   3. Just got an email from the "Total Loss Department" at my insurance. It's official. They have made what I consider to be an extremely fair offer, and I'm not going to argue them on it. As the other vehicle was uninsured, my deductible will be held in limbo until my insurance gets money back from the driver/owner. Which means probably never. Which means if they DO get paid back then I'll get a random $500 check in the mailbox in a year or two. They are asking me to sign over the title and allow them to pick up the salvage. I have reminded them by return email that I want to keep the salvage. We'll see how that goes. In the meantime I'll be getting non-factory parts from the car and selling the ones that make sense. I have a factory sub, weathertech font mats that are only a couple months old, full HID kit with brand new ballasts and bulbs that are a couple of months old. Look for a for-sale thread this coming weekend. Unsure if a part-out will happen as there is a local guy here who wants to buy the salvage from me for the modded engine.
  4. That's just the accident damage. The transmission is part of the 'salvage', and no claim will be made on that because the most I could get would be the lesser of "repair cost" or "value of car" and the "value of car" is junk weight. I'm going to keep the car, remove my aftermarket stuff and 2-month-old winter tire/wheel package (will fit on my wife's impreza) and sell the rest to a local enthusiast that wants the engine. Depending on how much he's willing to let me strip off the car I could part it out. We'll see. Oh, and I just found out the other vehicle is a company-owned vehicle and the driver is not listed on the policy so their insurance is refusing to cover it. Luckily I have collision coverage with the optional uninsured motorist coverage. I'll let my insurance company fight that battle.

  7. The new propshaft solved the whine noise. The bearing was gritty - completely hosed.
  8. It can be done, yes. If you approach this as a PROJECT car, not a daily driver, then it could be a fun project. You may be blazing a new trail in a lot of respects, and you will need electronics and wiring skills as well as physical mechanical skills. For comaprison... If my 5mt eats poop today, I'm putting a replacement 5mt in it. Once my Golf R arrives, and my LGT is my winter beater, a busted 5mt would probably get replaced with a 6mt just for the fun an experience in a project car. But NOT because it's a worthwhile project for a daily driver. That other car will be your primary vehicle for a long time. And I double-dog dare you to set a deadline... :-) A project like this is a strange beast, and timelines cannot be set in stone, but instead in smoke. "If you want to hear God laugh, tell him about your plans for the future..." If you truly are doing this as a project thing then go for it, I applaud you. Sounds like a fun project. If you are doing this to save money or hassle, buy a GT.

  10. Zombie thread, back from the dead. I've had the classic DS noise since I got the car 12 years ago. During this time I've replaced the center diff bearings due to a road-speed-dependent whine that developed over a couple of months. New issue is that the other week I was accelerating through a corner and heard the same rumbling noise that DS always makes, but then a sudden harsh stop of the noise followed by a road-speed-dependent whine that has persisted. At first I though the center diff bearings were bad again, same noise, and it doesn't sound like the videos I see of carrier bearing failures. Videos tend to show the carrier bearing after it has catastrophically failed and flops around like a fish. I pulled the propshaft last night and found that the carrier bearing is bad - bearings are dry, rough and making a scraping noise. So instead of doing the center diff I'm going to put a new propshaft on it and see if that is the problem. I'll report back if that was either the rumbling and/or the whine
  11. Finger crossed. The parts just arrived today so the work will be this weekend (starting on the assumption that I'm not replacing the center diff itself, just the bearings and seals/gaskets etc) Fingers crossed...
  12. Have you seen the new Leaf for 2018? They're doing a much better job of styling it like a "car" rather than an "electric car"... I'd keep the LGT, but as a project car, not a DD. Free me up to do some more extreme stuff like 6spd etc.
  13. Well, fingers crossed I don't have the split the case and it's just bearings in the extension housing. I've already decided that a bad trans = new car* for me. Just not worth the time and money any more. * That Tesla 3 looks pretty nice...
  14. Sorry, I wasn't clear. I mean I'll replace all 4 bearings in the extension housing in my shop here. I'll evaluate the actual diff itself while its out, I wanted an opportunity to at least check out the diff before committing to the $500 spend.
  15. Chassis ears confirmed the center diff sounded like an altoids tin full of marbles. Took an hour to get it torn down to a point when I'm about the pull the diff housing off - and the diagnosis appears to be confirmed - the output shaft has a ton of lateral play. Waiting for parts to arrive, then I'll get the diff rebuilt and put back together. Got an hour in it so far, and have the exhaust, heat shield, propshaft, crossmember and shifter linkage removed.
