I just replaced the stock wheels & tires on my 2005 Legacy GT. The tires are 17 X 7, +55mm offset, 215/45/17 tires. I replaced them with the following:

+48 mm offset

Yes, I'm looking at the 18*8.5 wheels. So 235/40/18 would not be a problem on a stock suspension? I can get those tires for $100 each at tirerack.
