I didn't read through 151 pages but it seems like the double din part can be removed by itself.

Why isn't there just a replacement piece for that and that way you can retain your stock dual...

Modified Outback front bumper

So the front bumper opening on any Legacy/Outback is a little small. So I decided to open mine up a little bit to accommodate my FMIC. I thought it turned out pretty good.
