Last week I saw a 1990 something VW Golf that was slammed and the guy had stripped the car of paint completely, and just let it rust. I guess you don't need to worry about washes or door dings....

Update

Not too happy with the evaluation...

It ended up being one of those "we can't duplicate it so we can't fix it" deals. No taking apart the car to check the clutch or tranny...just visual...
