They were able to pin point the cause by what... just listening to it? how much did for them to check it out. I agree with johnegg. i doubt that motor gives up anytime soon if ever.

My guess is piston slap. My car made/makes the same noise. thought it was a lifter at first then became a more pronounced slapping noise.

Has anyone related the drivetrain slop with irregular clutch engagement? I know my clutch is junk but am curious if the jerking, which has gotten a lot worse, is contributing to the clutch wear.
