  1. Not quite -2F today, but nice easy mod with a great benefit! Thanks!
  2. Fritz says "word!" 9 months later and I couldn't be happier! If I could only remember to use the RPT button... $35 hack + 1 hour install = Happy Chris Ok, I also bought an iPod power/audio wiring harness, a GLI and a mobile phone mount, so a little more than $35, but still... brhays, let me know if you need links to the power/audio and/or mobile phone mount. No, the GLI does not need it's own power. It is just a transformer. CJ.
  3. Damn! I have to try this. So, the changes to the original walk-through (I have a wagon with a sunroof) are to just swap the wires in the connector instead of cutting and splicing? Thanks! Awesome FREEEEEEE mod! Can we sticky this? CJ
  4. Thanks. I'm going to do this this weekend! This won't fix the box hitting the rear spoiler problem, but might help with moding one. Chris
  5. I've got a Thule ski and bike setup on my wagon and it looks great! I'll have to find the channel enlarging thread for the rear rail. Anyway, I went in to Rocky Mounts in Boulder and put thre e different boxes on my rack (Evo 1200, Cascade XT 1100, and a Yakama) and they were all too long to fit and still lift the rear door completely without touching. The problem was that the front bar wouldn't go far enough forward. I want a box to hold my skis, poles and my buddies' boards, but I want to be able to open up the rear hatch without contact with the box. Rocky Mounts suggested I could take the Thule Frontier and mod it by drilling holes where I actually need 'em. The Frontier is a pretty low end box, only opens on one side, etc. What Thule/Yakama boxes have folks put on their wagons? Thanks! Chris
  6. I've been told that in Colorado it can be any color as long as it blinks. I don't know if you can get dual-filment bulbs which is clear and amber. CJ
  7. Ok, so it sounds like it is needed for automatics and not manuals. On 5MT models, you just need to pop the cover up by gripping around where the boot attaches. But by the photos, I see what you mean. WRT the white rivets, turns out they slipped off the console when I took it off. After I saw how much it was flexing when I was trying to just pull, I just slid it to the right a bit and both popped off. Unfortunately, it doesn't easily go back on the same way. Thanks again for a great mod! CJ
  8. Just got my installed! I love it! Thanks Jazzy! I ended up putting in a GLI I got from Radio Shack, along with a coupler and 3' 1/8" to RCA patch cable to go from the interface board to the GLI, and then another coupler and a 6' RCA to 1/8" patch cable to go from the GLI to my iPod. So an extra $45 in parts later (I went with the gold connectors) and I'm good to go. Took me about 2 hours going very slow and testing a couple of times before putting everything back together. No screw issues, no wiring issues, worked first time. I routed the 6' patch cable from just under the shifter cover, under the center console, and up through a hole I drilled just next to the 12v outlet in the center storage cubbie. I have enough slack to position the iPod pretty much anywhere. Couple of things about the installation. (a) Depending on how you wire, there is no need to remove the handbrake cover or the console between the seats. The screws holding down the rear of the side trim were exposed just removing the shift knob and poping the shift console trip up. This may be a manual only thing though. (b) If you do remove this center console, I had a real bitch of a time getting the two white plastic clips at the front removed to slide back into the grooves for re-installation. I ended up using a eye glasses screwdriver to pry under the lowest part and trigger the release. Unfortunately, if you want a tight fit on the front of the console, you are going to have to tackle this one. Getting this all back together was what took me the longest. The actual board installation was a snap and nicely detailed in the instructions. CJ
  9. Well, this is my next task as I just purchased the Halo's from RPM. I'm sooooooo glad this forum exists 'cause I don't think I would really know where to start otherwise. Thanks for ALL the awesome walkthroughs and personal experiences. CJ
  10. Just go to Stage 2 and all studdering is gone, daddy, gone!
