If you hold down the Mode button on the steering wheel, the system will turn off. Then you can tap the Mode button again to turn it back on. It's not a mute button, but it works.

Would be nice if Subaru offered those drivetrain upgrades and still honored the warranty. The article makes it sound like the tranny can take that kind of power reliably, but who really knows.
