and you don't need to buy a transmission jack, i even took out my transmission without one they don't weigh much at all. but you don't have to take the trans out for a clutch job.

maybe your torque wrench is off? for the t5 bolt your idea should work, use your own judgement, if you can't retap it then that may be your only option. as for the t6 if the threads are ruined...
