So wait did I have it in right the first time then? As of right now the flat side is to the flywheel and the sprung side is to the pp I've already put like almost 200 city driving miles on it.

Yup that was the problem clutch was backwards. We got it back together it still wouldn't go into gear, but we had to adjust the clutch and now it shifts fine. Just gotta do the break in now.
