  1. Wow...lol....people sure make this mod harder than it really is.....
  2. To trim the AL channel all I used was some sheat metal shears and a file to smooth the edges. Worked like a charm and took all of 5-10 minutes total.
  3. Thanks for kind words Seeeeeya! I was surprised to see some of the tabs bent out a little at my low boost level. At my altitude I'm just a little above stock levels taken at sea level. What I found interesting was where they were starting to bend out...was at the lower part near the intake manifold and turbo outlet. Thinking about it now I guess that's where pressure would be the greatest since its right at the turbo outlet..then it gets lesser the further away. I'm with you though that the design of the OE TMIC is good, just the execution poor. They should have used steel for the tab design.
  4. You can't really see it in the pic but I did file the drivers side that hits the BPV return line. It actually doesn't touch it. As far as re-doing the tabs I didn't bother. Gently hammering the channel down over the tabs actually bent them back in place. The tabs are actually pretty soft AL. Oh and I forgot to mention that the length of the channels after cutting is 10.5".
  5. Here's my list break down from lowes. I lost my reciept but I know it wasn't more than 15 USD for everything (4) 4" 1/4 x 20 Hex Tap Bolts (4) 1/4 x 20 Flanged Hex lock nuts 3/8" AL Plywood Channel
  6. I haven't been on LGT long enough to comment, but I have seen the same trend happen on other forums I was once proud to be a part of. I think it stems from having more and more younger, less experienced people join forums. These people come from the 'Spoon Fed' generation. People that lack the imagination necessary to foster innovation. They grew up with programmable calculators so they didn't have to learn long division. You can see the trend not just in the automotive aspect but everywhere in the world. They want the quick fix without learning about what the fix is.
  7. Not sure what you mean by ugly? With the cover on you can tell anything was done to the TMIC.. I got the 3/8" channel from lowes. All you need is one piece as its enough to cut into the 4 smaller pieces. I also used low profile nuts and bolts from lowes as well and it worked perfectly. No need to trim anything on the cover. One thing I also did differently is I only trimmed down the side of the channel that sits on top of the plastic end tanks. The other side snugs down nicely on the IC core for a nice smooth appearance. Here's a pic of what I'm talking about
  8. Just wanted to add my 2 pennies as I just did this mod. DO IT!! Unless your growing a money tree I think everyone with the OE TMIC should do this. I was only running a COBB Stage 1 tune and noticed the little tabs spreading and oil seeping out of the cracks. While I think the Subaru TMIC is a good design and a good match for the stock turbo I think the execution could have been better. A higher strength metal for the piece that joins the plastic end tanks to the core would have added a few bucks to the cost of the TMIC but would have eliminated the weak point. That said I think major props should be given to SeeeYa for coming up with such an easy cost effective solution. For less than 15 bucks in parts and a few hours labor you have a nearly indestructible TMIC that should last a VERY long time.
  9. Would you recommend I install a second bung in my new downpipe so you can use your wideband?
  10. I'd be curious to know what types of things were tuned compared to a COBB OTS Stage 2 map. I'm about to install a Perrin Downpipe and do the Bulletproof mod on my stock TMIC. I've got the stock turbo and injectors so I'd be curious.
  11. The screen in the banjo bolt is the whole purpose of this thread...right? lol It was put there by Subaru to help protect the fragile turbo journal bearings from getting contaminated. IMHO you don't really need this screen after the engine is fully broken in and the bearing material is out of the system.
  12. +1 for offering a Group Buy price on these!! I know I could make it myself but it would take me weeks if not months to get up the motivation to do it, lol. Why not give the guy that made it some cash for all his hard work?
  13. Just did this 'mod' over the weekend. Literally took about 30 minutes including creating my own stubby 17mm wrench. I just used a dab of grease on the banjo bolt head to make the washer stick there and it held fine. Was a few mystery things in the screen but not bad at all given the cars 99k mileage.
  14. Yeah, everything seems to be fine. Just had a little scare there is all. I also replaced the OE up pipe with one from a STi. Nice decrease in spool time.
  15. Hi All, Quick question. I'm doing my timing belt on my 05 GT and the vise grips got bumped off the drivers side cams and they sprung back. I got everything lined back up and turned over the engine by hand to feel the compression. It feels the same as it did before changing the belt. What's the odds that my valves got bent on the drivers side head? I'm thinking of finishing up and starting the engine to see if I hurt it, but am weary of causing any more damage. Any suggestions? I know the subie engine is interference and damage can happen if the valve heads collide.
