  1. Great Thread. I am at 102K and started looking into buying parts. I fully intended to do this myself but for giggles I got a quote from the local dealer. They quoted parts at 1005.14 (belt, idlers, tentioner, water pump, thermostat), labor at $884 plus a coolant flush at $179.95. A grand total of $2069.09. My jaw dropped when I saw that total. Could this really be correct or did the service lady screw up? My transmission rebuild cost less than this! (done at a Subaru shop not the dealer of course) Also, is there a place where I can rent a harmonic balance removal tool? Are these things a Subaru specific or are they pretty generic? What did everyone else use?
  2. Nice write up msprank. Is that an upgraded wastegate actuator on the 16g? or is it just a painted OEM?
  3. I am returning to Cleveland next weekend to visit family and while I'm there I will be participating in the Nelsons ledges funday (9/18). Any of you local guys planning to attend? It is always fun to see other LGTs on the track to offset all those hondas etc.
  4. I picked up that set of 06 WRX wheels and tires(potenza G019 grid) and threw them on this weekend. No fitment issues and the 7 spoke actually looks pretty decent.
  5. ok so I have located some resonably priced wheels and tires off of an 06 wrx. they are 17" and 5X100. I see no reason why they wouldnt fit but just wanted to make sure that something silly like the centering ring size or offset was screwy or dont clear the calipers(stock). If these are a go then I will finally have much needed winter tires/wheels. Thanks in advance
  6. Thanks, that does indeed help. what would you recommend for an up pipe? I have read alot about leaking problems due to poor alignment.
  7. Question for any of you who are running Stage 2 and are subject to emissions testing. What set up are you running (what cats are you retaining if any) and were you able to pass emissions? I am getting ready to go stage 2 and want to pick the set up that will not cause me problems in the future for either maryland or ohio emissions. My initial thoughts are to get a shorty dp and retain my up pipe cat and my last cat. But If I could pass emissions, I would prefer to go with a full catless dp. Advise? Thanks in advance.
  8. ^^ I have coilovers and sway bars. I Started the tires at 32-35 psi- that was waaay too soft. I bumped them up progressivley and I think I am in the mid 40s (which reminds me, I need to check them pretty soon). But even in the mid 40s they really are pretty mushy. What pressure are you running them at?
  9. 1.) BF Goodrich g-force T/A KDW 2 215/45R-17/ $152 each from Costco. 2.) Baltimore Md 3.) Track day, spirited daily driving 4.)70% highway, 30% city 5.) RE-92s 6.) I am on the fence about these. I have put about 5k miles on them thus far. They have a ton of grip, the wet traction is great and they look aggressive. Many people complain that these are pretty loud- they are louder than stock but really not loud enough to be annoying in my opinion. My only complaint(but a big one) about these tires is the SOFT sidewalls. They are mushy. Turn-in provides little road feel. They will hold a really hard, high speed turns like nothing else but are very difficult to read and inspire little confidence. As bad as the RE-92s were, they provided very crisp and predictable turn-in. I will not buy these again or recommend them for his reason. Edit/Update (7/11/2010) My KDWs are at the end of their lives now. Despite my initial negative impression(as read above), I love these tires. I am pretty sure I'll be buying another set to replace them. They are very sticky and predictable. And to top that off, I put 3 full track days (~200+) hard track miles and 25k or so aggressive street miles on them- these wear great.
  10. Hey guys. I am interested in doing some AutoX this spring/summer. I have been searching around for info and have found very little. Any of you guys involved in the Cleveland area autoX scene? If so, can you suggest some clubs/sites/people that I should contact for Info? I also planning on doing a two day Racing/driving school at nelsons ledges this summer. My buddy did one with the BMW of America club last summer and said it was a blast. I think he said it was $300-400 with an instructor in the car with you. When i get info on that I'll post it for anyone interested.
  11. I had mine done about a month ago at Stevens Autoglaze in eastlake. I paid 294 after tax for 35% all around. They did a great job and it is warrantied for as long as you own your car against peeling, cracking and bubbling.
