  1. I did this job today. The bolt and nut that keep the bracket on were pretty frozen. It took some penetrating oil and a big breaker bar to loosen them. I was able to get sockets on both by using long extensions. The worst part of the whole job was getting the banjo bolt and copper washers back in. I bought a new banjo bolt and had a bunch of copper washers on hand which was good as I dropped a few of them. This isn't a job for someone with large hands. When I was at the dealer getting the banjo bolt, I asked him if they leave the filter in or not. He said they did and that the job took a long time because they remove the turbo to do it. Admittedly, removing the turbo would have made life a bit easier but would have take a lot longer. It struck me as the dealer trying to suck money out of the customer. Finally, Subaru, you suck for this.
  2. I ordered a Jazzy board about 9 months ago but finally installed it 6 weeks ago. First off, the install was easy and the board works as advertised, great in other words. However, I had an iPod related issue. At first, I just ran the mini stereo jack right into my Nano's headphone jack (I planned on doing a charging solution later). The problem with this was that I typically had to boost to volume up to 20-25 on my head unit to make it listenable. Plus, Soundcheck seemed to not work well at all. Volume level was all over the place from mp3 to mp3. I got the Belkin Auto kit as a charging solution. I realize people here have had problems with it but I figured the preamp would help my situation. Sure enough it did and I've had no overheating problems. It also seems that Soundcheck works better coming from the line-out instead of the headphone jack on the Nano. *shrug* In any event. I have the line-in going to my armrest and then into the Belkin. The dock connector from the Belkin comes out of there to my iPod which rests on the cover of the cupholders. It all works great.
  3. - Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2 in 225/45-17 - I purchased a set of used OZ SL's with Bridgestone S03's from my Subaru dealer to use for summer (stock wheels got Nokian WR's for winter). I purchased the set in the fall and got them at a great price. However, I didn't mount them until the spring. Once I did mount them, I got a rude awakening. The OZ's were pristine and the S03's had a lot of tread left but they were seriously LOUD and tramlined pretty bad. I drove on them from spring of '06 until early August and decided I couldn't stand them anymore. To replace them I got the Michelins and what a world of difference. The Michelins are quiet, track well (no tramlining) and are great in the wet. They don't have the ultimate grip the S03's had but they're still a high performance tire. Also, the ride with the Michelins is much better. I'd buy them again.
  4. Hey Jazzy, the eagle has landed. I'm impressed with the quality of the board. Very professional. I have a question though. I'm thinking of adding a switch to it. I want to add a toggle switch on a wire that would allow me to switch between the aux signal and the CD changer signal. Any thoughts on this? Doable? If you think I'm crazy, I'll just stick with the silent CD.
  5. actually Jazzy, I have an idea (not to be annoying). It would be kind of cool if your board had two mini jacks. One would be for the aux in but the other would be for a little toggle switch that could be mounted (maybe in teh cubby) and allow the user to switch between the CD changer and the aux in. That way the silent CD wouldn't be necessary. Is something like that possible? Finally, this thread should have a sticky.
  6. YGPP. Tks Jazzy and congrats on getting engaged. While doing the wedding shopping/planning, just say "whatever makes you happy dear". Just don't say it to often or she'll know. Oh and just wait until you have kids.
  7. sorry, I've been off this board for awhile. Are these still available? I WANT ONE! Very nice job. It's amazing some intelligent person on the internet can do something better than a big company like Subaru.
  8. I had thought the STi had bigger valves and more aggressive cams.
  9. US warranty is 3/36 bumper to bumper and 5/60 for powertrain. It would be interesting to hear Subaru's reasoning behind having two very similar engines used in different markets. I bet emissions has something to do with it.
  10. The twin scroll turbo produces more boost. That's why both engines have basically the same HP numbers. Twin scroll is nice but giving an engine more boost has its downsides. Most other countries don't demand as long a warranty either.
  11. The 2.5 is heavily related to the STi engine so I suspect it's better. It's less stressed at very least. Remember the STi in the rest of the world is a 2L engine and we get the 2.5 which is definitely a strong engine. I know the 2L is twin scroll which is nice but I'd rather have a bigger engine producing the same power assuming no big weight penalty. The 2L turbo the rest of the world uses might be a much stouter engine but I tend to doubt it. It'd be interesting to see both torn down though.
  12. You think there's a significant weight difference between the two? Part of the reason I got the unlimited was because it's lighter.
  13. -2.5 turbo engine, -for '06 manual trans only in sedan (dumb) -two basic configs --- regular: cloth seats, no power seat, no sunroof --- Limited: leather, power seat, sunroof It's kind of surprising that, for once, the US gets the better engine.
