  1. I'm back, looks like I need a new Cat Back exhaust. Really rusting from all the road salt and crap they put on the roads here in NJ. I like the SPT set up but don't want to spend $1000 on it. I don't want a loud system and prefer not to go to the stock set up. Any suggestions for that smooth subie rumble without the loud can sound?

  3. Yes to answer BoozeRS05, still a stock tune, but now needing a new exhaust from CAT back so, I may look for new or used SPT exhaust and then, since I have SPT intake and Invidia cat less up pipe, a tune would need to be done. Boys and their toys.

  5. Original owner, currently 235,000 on Royal Purple, just completed new front brakes again with calipers, passenger side wore out, Centric rotors and HPS pads, all new fluid. Engine flush and new turbo, it was starting to act funky, timing belt, water pump tensioners and pulleys, etc, plugs at 225,000. Try the Kart Boy end links, much better than stock replacements. The headlights in the 2005 - 07 series simply have crappy low beams overall but compounded due to DRL usage and I've replaced a bunch also over the last 12 years. Keep them running. I still love the car. Very minor rust which will be taken care of this spring.
  6. Good morning. The OCI with Royal Purple is every 4 - 5,000 miles depending on types of trips. Level checked weekly and always kept at safe level. Filters were either OEM or RP. I have a mix of short, 6 mile and longer, 45 mile trips weekly with some even longer. The longer are mostly on the Interstate to either NYC or Philly and at times, more often than not, at WOT, to get through traffic. The PCV was not clogged but had some sludge build up. I suggest to check all the rubber hoses as they get hard and lose their efficiency. When I bought the car, I was working in NYC and went with the 5EAT vs. manual. It's no fun to go into or out of the city with a manual during rush hour. I looked at the aluminum rads but they weren't for the 5EAT as I remember. I went with the stock OEM radiator and thermostat. Using the Mishimoto hoses and cap. Happy driving to all.
  7. Good morning Folks. Just turned 227,000. I have also completed most of what WaHooNo2 has done, plus replaced the radiator at 180,000 as top plastic cracked and leaked with Mishimoto hoses. Have installed Invidia up-pipe, SPT intake, Perrin lightened main drive pulley, Centric cryo rotors with Hawk HPS pads front and rear, struts and shocks, Kartboy end links front and rear, etc., etc. Always looked to replace worn out parts with better. Car has been well maintained as I am original owner. Here's current tale of woe....had the infamous P0011 killer code along with the funky zip sound from the turbo. Wound up pulling some hoses and found them packed with oil sludge and moisture. The more we checked the various lines, we found this sludge throughout the intake system. Long story shortened, sludge was everywhere; had to pull intake manifold, and clean out, replace many hoses which hardened over time, PCV, cam covers, valve cover gaskets, oil pan dropped and cleaned, OCV's replaced, timing belt, rollers, tensioners, water pump and finally, a new turbo. We all love that statement, while I'm in there. I've run Royal Purple oil since 10,000 miles and compression is 140 at 202,000 with minimal valve leakage. So my question is, is anyone using an oil catch can here and would that have prevented the sludge buildup throughout the motor? I know, dumb question. May look to put one on as I plan on keeping the car for many more miles. Thanks for the info on the Purolator PL14615 filter. I also use a magnetic oil drain plug. FYI - After all the work I just did, the smile is back on my face at WOT as my baby just runs and runs. Safe and happy driving to all.
  8. The micro brew is Weyerbacher (http://www.weyerbacher.com) in Easton, PA. on the NJ / PA border. Check their website, let me know if you ever care to go, we could do a small rally, maybe some other NJ / PA drivers too. Always have 12 or so brews to sample, you get 6 2.5 oz. for free to taste. Friendly bar maids! Turboboost, you have River Horse near you in Princeton or Hopewell since they moved from Lambertville and there's Kane Brewing in Ocean county, Triumph Brewing in New Hope. Repairs I've done are turbo, stayed VF40, rear wheel bearings, valve cover gaskets, TB, Struts changed to KYB's, Centric Cryo Rotors, HPS pads, Kartboy endlinks, Whiteline LCA's and sway bar bushings, radiator, front axle boots, etc. all normal stuff that was replaced with better to make the car better. I'm sure I've replaced more items, but nothing that was a killer repair. Planning an Invidia uppipe soon. I plan on keeping the car a long time. B T W - This was their official Pumpkin release, very good.
  9. Howdy all, will turn 209,000 later today on my way to the local Micro Brew which is releasing it's Pumpkin Ale today. Original owner, many parts replaced as needed due to wear, not abuse. Great website with great members. Have nothing but positive comments on all that enjoy driving and taking care of these fun cars. And yes, I have my 200K badge displayed.
  10. I 'm in same boat as Burt. I'm the original owner and I'm on my 3rd. as of this week. First Turbo went at about 162,000 miles. Banjo bolt finally got clogged. I had the repairs done and car ran great. Last year on trip 225 miles from home, turbo went again. With no local mechanics, went to local Subaru dealer and had them do repairs with parts shipped from my friends at Fred Beans at significant savings. Last week, heard the same wonderful noise and lack of power. Parked car, checked my receipt from last repair and WHOOPEE, I was 70 miles under the 12,000 mile warranty. Had the car towed to Flemington Subaru. Long story shortened, SOA had dealer run compression and leak tests along with dropping oil pan. Compression is 140 for all cylinders and leak was 3%, 4%, 6% and 6%. There were "metal shavings in oil due to turbo failure. SOA gave approval and dealer completed full flush, repair and replacement. I give a lot of credit to running Royal Purple 5-30 since 10,000 miles for the motor to be in such good condition. I also appreciate all the help I get from the staff and mechanics at Flemington Subaru, Ryan at Fred Beans parts and my local mechanics, Matt and Chris at Michael Brothers Auto Repair. All have helped me to keep this car running in great condition. The car currently has 204,484 miles as of yesterday. BTW - I have a VF40 Turbo at a fair price that can be rebuilt. Keep your Subie's running and many safe miles to all.
  11. Forgot to mention, on second set of full, Centric front and rear rotors and Hawk HPS pads with system flush. These rotors and pads make a huge difference in pedal feel and stopping distance. Also, Kart Boy end links and AVO SB bushings help a lot with the KYB shocks.
  12. Hi Guys and gals. BSM LGT turned 200,000 last week. Original owner bought new and picked up in 9.2005. Royal Purple since 10,000 miles. Have replaced turbo 15,000 miles ago with full engine flush and all that's required by dealer, replaced intake tumbler, throttle body, shocks, end links, sway bushings, rear wheel bearings, new radiator 10,000 miles ago , valve cover gaskets and normal headlight bulbs, battery, etc. Due for new LCA'S, ball joints and from driver side axle since the boot sleeve is torn. Then new tires and alignment for the winter. I'm probably forgetting a few minor things, but, the car is great and fun to drive up here in the hills of western NJ. CD player died around 100,000 miles. Plan was to go to at least 250,000 miles when I bought it. Plan to keep as no rust or damage, few dings here and there. Kudos to Ryan and the team at Fred Beans for excellent services and parts pricing that have allowed me to keep my baby running and in great shape. See you all on the road, flick your lites to say hi to other subie drivers.
  13. I have the 5EAT, been changing trans with OEM fluid and diff's on regular basis with Royal Purple. The trans still shifts smoothly.
  14. Have 191,000 miles but around 173,000, I put on KYB struts all around. Kept the OEM swaybars, BUT, went with the KartBoy endlinks front and back, and AVO SB bushings in front and stock in back. Big difference in the handling. Wish AVO made replacements for the rear size. Soon going to new LCA's and ball joints as they now need replacing. Have to say though that I got 27.3 MPG on a 135 mile run down to Atlantic City yesterday averaging 75 mph to see The Who. Car still runs great.
