Replacing Head Lights

How do u go about replacing the passanger side head light under the air intake and what are your thoughts on sylvania silverstar zxe

Just remove the air intake tube and twist the gray plastic cover.

Go to the dealer and bring the VIN and tell them you want bulb that doesn't burn out in 9 months.

OEM came out with a better bulb back in late 05 I think it was.

Interesting coincidence.. Just yesterday I noticed my driver's side bulb went out. I replaced both bulbs about 2 years ago with Sylvania Silverstars.. They can't last forever when they're on all the time. I'll probably replace both again with either Sylvania or something else and keep the old bulb as a spare in the trunk in case one goes out at a bad time..

I think day time running lights are a good idea, you just have to expect to replace the bulbs regularly.

Replacing head light or head light bulb?

If you're going to replace the whole head light, you'll need to remove/drop the bumper in order to access the bolts on the bottom. There's about 8 pop-its and the grill to remove the bumper.

For some odd reason I didnt notice this the last time I replaced the headlight bulbs... I dropped by autozone today to pick up a new set of bulbs. Right on the sylvania silverstar and ultra..... packages it states that the bulbs perform better but will have a shorter lifespan. The cheapest bulbs had the longest life but are much dimmer. Since the silverstars lasted about 2 years and were definitely brighter than the old bulbs, I decided to get a set of those again... $40.

Just disable DRL and you don't have to replace bulbs that often :)

Or go to the dealer and tell them you want the good bulb that Subaru came out with in 2005 to solve the bulb burning out issue.

I second this - I JUST changed out my first set of the Osram bulbs from 2007 (6 Years - 50K Miles)

And I've yet to have an HIR go out.... (Knocks on wood):p

They're almost the same price as SilverStars but I'm fairly certain they are actually even brighter as well as last longer. Shipped from CandlePower in about 3 days from order...

I think the Silverstar zke bulbs are way overpriced. I you look at what's available on Amazon you can get a better price and free shipping (sometimes). I think there's more premature failure due to having the lights on when starting the car than due to DRLs. Lights off and handbrake set means no surge to the bulbs.

Just get the Osrams from candlepower.com and don't over think it. Shipping is fast and the bulbs are bright and last a long time.

FWIW, back in the day, late 04 till OEM came out with the better bulbs, I was going through Silverstars every 2/3 months.

Put the OEM's in and was fine till I wanted the Osram's.
