Is my 99 Outback wagon a 2nd Gen?
 

If it is, why is the MY in the 3rd gen section? :confused:

You have a 2nd gen. It is because the JDM Legacy is from 99-03 for the 3rd gens

and 99 was /is a transition year.

the 99 outback got the phase 2 auto trans with a hybrid ej25D engine. hybrid because it has the phase 2 block with the DOHC heads and intake.

the 99 forester got the phase 2 ej25 SOHC engine.

and on some sites, like http://opposedforces.com/parts , the dates are actually build dates, not model year dates.

Mine is a 3rd gen and legally a 2000 model but was manufactured on 6/99

98 outback got a phase 2 engine as well with DOHC

nope.

phase 2 ej25 is defined by an 8 bolt bell housing and SOHC. first in the US was the 99 forester. by 00 all ej25s were phase 2.
