Help a noob who's about to do up and down pipe
I've got an 05 pure stock GT with 5EAT.
I'm picking up a used WRX STI up and a invidia dp. The shop is AWD Tune here in the DFW area. I know a tune is mandatory but should I let the shop do the tune($350) or do something like an Infamous tune from this site? Thanks guys, I'm excited to take this first step. Any tips are greatly appreciated! |
Let the shop tune it, especially if it's only $350. Are they dyno tuning for that amount of money?

Have the shop tune it for instant gratification.

Go to the shop, have fun

Go to the shop, I think e-tuning is more an option for people who dont have a (good) tuner in the area.
|
Thanks everyone. Bought the up and down pipes today. They'll have to sit in the trunk until I can have them put on and tuned.

it may be a "deal" but as far as tuning goes, you get what you pay for.

I've yet to hear anything bad about this shop and he appears to be the most knowledgeable Subaru guy in the area.
|
Good luck with it then. It does sound tough to pass up. Quiz him a bit about what he wants to do and check here too with some of the guys that are far more knowledgeable about these cars than myself. Subarus are Subarus, but the GT and the WRX or STI are a little different in some respects. If you have it done post up a review and numbers and brag about it a bit!

FYI - If those are your only mods, I don't believe there to be any major danger to driving without a tune, but if someone wants to correct me/or confirm they're welcome to.
However the opposite (stage 2 tune with a catted DP) would. For $350 with a dyno tune I'd definitely take it in if they have a decent reputation. |
