Strange Clanking noise

Something just started today and was hoping someone would be able to help. When I rev the engine there is a loud clanking noise. The car drives fine but the noise is definitely not normal. Even if I am not moving it will happen when I rev the engine. Any idea?

toasted turbo, or maybe throwout bearing?

lol yes, don't drive it or else the shortblock will feel the turbo bearing material in its own bearings.... drain the oil

here is the shaft play

Bearings are shot in the turbo housing ... Like mentioned above, don't run the engine again until you have determined the extent of the problem and made the necessary repairs.

At a minimum, there is a lot of non ferrous (bearing) particles in your oil. If you are using a magnetic oil drain plug, check it for ferrous metal particles. If your model has the banjo bolt oil filter, plan on changing that also.

With the amount of shaft play you have on the compressor side of the turbo, you probably have material from the housing and turbine wheel ingested through the intake of the motor.

After you have done the above, you will have a much better idea of what repairs are necessary (beyond the turbo overhaul/replacement).

Good luck to you.
