OEM Pioneer Streo/Nav

I have had a few comments in a couple of other threads about the crappy stereo/nav that came in my 2012 Legacy Limited.....in Canada (Not sure about the US models) it is a Pioneer AVIC X9310BT and it was practically useless from day #1......average accuracy was as much as 500-600 meters off actual location and sent us on weird routes when trying to find various locations. Once it sent me 15 Km out of my way while trying to find an address that was less than 5 Km from where I entered the data. A couple of trips to the dealer did nothing to remedy the situation.... they tried it from a few blocks away from their lot and it found the dealership, first try.........They declared it "Fixed"
A couple of calls to the Pioneer Canada service line and I had the answer. For some reason the people who do the installs for Subaru Canada like to put the antenna under the dash amid all the wires and dash structure. Great idea !!!
Today I popped off the plastic cover that is right in front of the clock/trip info display and dug out the antenna wire which was wrapped around the antenna head and stuffed in on top of the stereo/nav unit. Simply unwrapped it and placed the antenna head on the dash with a clear view of the sky..........Guess what??? It works properly now. The antenna head is the little black box and is about 1" square and 1/2" high.
This unit will never match a Garmin for accuracy and navigation data but at least it now knows where it is and can find simple destinations.
Easy fix for anyone.......see pics.
BTW...the disc on the dash cover is for my Garmin Nuvi for when I need to find things in strange cities;)

I guess in the 2012 gt they fixed this by putting the antenna on the windshield passenger side.. nice find and nice fix!

Is the antenna in your windshield this same little one or is it the Sat Radio antenna?? Mine has the Sat Radio antenna in the top right of the windshield (Kinda looks like a skinny computer mouse.......this GPS antenna was buried int he dash with loads of wires etc.
Note...Mine is 2012 as well.

Mine is supposed to be in that box (yup little mouse looking thing) .. I'm going to open up my console and check.....

Pop the top panel off the dash and find the green connector going into the back of the unit...that is the antenna plug....I'll bet you find that it leads you to the antenna head somewhere inside the dash.

That nav in your car (from what I can see) isn't an OEM unit... At least not here in the US.

They are OEM in all 2012 Canadian Subarus that would have Nav systems....one year deal with Pioneer of Canada....according to the sales staff at my dealership, the guy at Subaru Canada who signed off on the deal was fired shortly afterwards. A lot of the problems with them is the installation work that is done at what Subaru calls "Port of entry" install.........seems the cars leave the factory without any stereo/nav and they are installed by someone at the "Port of entry" before they are sent to the dealers....Mine was improperly installed/wired so the Sirius Sat radio did not work at all when I got the car..(Fixed by the dealer) and the GPS antenna was down inside the dash cavity wrapped in various wires...(Fixed by me with assist from Pioneer's tech service)
At the very best ....this GPS is barely adequate to navigate with but it is in combo with a great stereo.....Compared to my Garmin Nuvi the Pioneer system is virtually stone age technology.
