A friend accidentally put in $5 worth of 87 in my car...How bad is it?
So I had a friend driving me as I was intoxicated and I gave him 5 bucks to put in the tank, told him to use 93 but instead he put in 87 . Will this have any negative effects? Should I put in some 93 on top of that so that it will be a mix of 87 and 93 to help out if it is bad for the car?
Thanks for any help :) -PJ |
Here much gas was in the tank before ?
Keep it out of boost. Put 93 back in when most of this crap is gone. Or put 93 in now and keep it out of boost till you know you have all 93 in there. |
Top off the tank with high octane, and you'll be just fine.
|
Or just put octane booster in it.

I chuckled at the "I gave him $5 to put in the tank".

That's a little over a gallon....lol....your car won't notice the difference.

My Wife put a half tank of 87 in my Stage 1 car.
I shit a brick. that said, i topped it off with CA-91, and kept it out of boost, no issues. |
I don't know... Up here your bound to get a gallon, give or take of 87 every time you fill up unless you get the gas after someone else selected 91(common hose for all grades)
fill it with High and drive on. Mac |
Well it's a good thing it's only 1 month before this all ends......
Serioulsly though - you'll be fine.....plenty of stg2 and 3 folks in the tri-state area that had to fill up a few times w/87 due to gas craziness w/sandy with no ill effects |
It's only like a gallon or so anyway

Do have an "escape plan" when going out partying with friends. Do have your friends drive their cars. If they don't have cars. Find friends with jobs. Do have taxi money if you want to get plastered in public. Fill the entire tank with 93 and toss a bottle of octane booster in it. Drive. |
The car will pull timing to prevent damage, or at least my old turbo Volkswagen would. I wouldn't bother with octane booster considering it's barely more than a gallon of gas.
