Suspension Guru's Mount Up...Another troubleshooting moment!!

OK soooooo I read about this on several forums with very few remedies if any! Purchased the Kartboy front and rear sway bar end-link combo kit recently. Just noticed today that with the steering turned wheel (completely/fully turned) to the left or to the right there is noise contact with the tie rods (metal on metal) and the end links. There is also a consequential grinding noise! My car is stock suspension other than the bar…has NOT been lowered or altered in any way than the bar. My sway bar is Rallitek (Non-Turbo). The top of the endlink/swaybar connection point is rubbing the bottom of the tie rod. This is happening on both sides. Anybody have this problem? What was done to fix it?

Did they send you the right part? IIR just sent my buddy WRX sways for his STI...we didnt know until they were on.

Out of curiosity, did you notice if the front and rear endlinks were the same length?
I'll get under my car sometime this evening to measure the fronts. As a heads-up, the answer to the question is that the fronts should be shorter than the rears.

@ mwm5094, cant tell if its the right part for sure, however the sticker (provided below) says that its the right part, but who knows what goes it the packaging, ya know. Contacted Kartboy and the say that they think it may be the wrong bar, because to him (Tom) it does not look wide enough!

jamal 11-08-2012 04:43 PM

Assuming you have the shorter links on the front, the bar should reach farther back. Maybe you got one for a pre-05?

jhow257415 11-08-2012 04:45 PM

@ Jim_KT the endlinks were def. a different size! The front links are smaller than the rear as you stated. I think I will give Rallitek a call because the sticker above isnt specific to year or models!!!

jhow257415 11-08-2012 04:45 PM

@jamal you might be right!

Called Rallitek and they insist that it is the correct part!!!?????

What to do, what to do?

Does the picture of the Turbo Bar look wider than the Non-Turbo bar, or is it just the angle?

Key detail the bars were installed on a lift with the suspension hanging and no weight/load on the vehicle. is this correct?

mwm5094 11-09-2012 06:31 AM

The suspension under load just makes for easier installation. Other than that it doesn't matter.

Assuming you have the correct bar and it was installed properly, the end should not come up under the tie rod like that. It looks like the bar itself was made/designed incorrectly as it does not come far enough pas the tie rod to make the endlink mount up vertically. Id get rid of the bar and pick up the Tribecca front bar instead which will fit your car.

Brought car back to the auto mechanic/shop that originally installed the sway bar’s. 1.5 hours of inspection and adjustments (with me in under the car assisting them)…and…still nothing. The mechanic is also leaning towards what #jamal and Kartboy have eluded to which is the bar might be the wrong bar. Rallitek still says it’s the correct bar. The bar actually looks about ¾ of an inch short. You really see this on the passenger side end link/sway bar connection point. The end link is reaching or leaning to the right in order to mate with the bar. Here are some more pics while on the lift and off!

Also, the mechanic reported to me that the front wheel base (think he meant the width from one wheel to the other) is different from an Impreza, to an Outback, to a Legacy 2.5i. He could not understand why Rallitek would attempt to fit a universal bar for these 3 NA vehicles if the suspension components are different. Rallitek says that the components and width are the same!!!! I don’t know!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With that said...Whitetiger i think you have the right idea thanks for the help btw. first i gotta wait to see what Rallitek will do in terms of feedback/fix/return/swap/refund.
