XM Antennae - Got Paint?
 

I have been thinking about having a body shop paint the XM satellite antennae. Will take it off the car of course to have it done. I have a SWP car and the black just sticks out like a sore thumb on the white roof. Not interested in blacking out the roof.

Does anyone have any idea if painting the plastic will affect the satellite reception? Other vehicles have paint matched antennae.

I can't remember who did it.. He just rattle canned it and said no issues. I'd wonder what a 2013 antenna would cost vs. painting the one you have.

Are the 2013 antenna matched to body color?

UPDATE: Never mind, just found a few pics of SWP 2013's on AutoTrader and yes, they are. Will go that route. Probably cheaper, and factory. Thanks guys.

The 2013 is definitely painted and definitely a direct swap - the shape is a little different, too. I put one on my car - looks much nicer to me

instead of painting the roof black, buy a black LGT instead!:lol: But once you go black.......

Where did you get the idea that I wanted to black out my roof. I want to white out the black that is there now.

Had a black car once, been there, done that. Even with regular waxing it looked like sh!t in the sun after about 8 years. And we have a LOT of sun here in Cali.:)

Okay, local dealer got me the part no. for a 2013 XM antenna in SWP.

But they wanted $137 for it. Subaru Part Online wants $83. Much better but still too much. :icon_neut

I think I paid $89-ish online. It was worth it to me to be able to just swap it over than to take the old one off, prep it, paint it, then re-install. Plus I liked the shape of the new one better than the old one.

Not really - it's one nut which holds it in place, and once you pull down the headliner in the rear (remove the handles on each side, pull out one of the c-pillar trim pieces, then the headliner has 3 plastic snaps across the rear) you can get to it. The annoying part was releasing the connector.
